WLC, UK doesn't answer

WLC College India relationship with Wigan and Leigh UK

Wigan and Leigh College, UK - Profiteering out of Indian students

http://www.careers360.com/news/3751-WLC-College-India-All-you-MUST-know

The role of WLC, UK does not appear to be above board, seeking to profiteer out of the desperate need by Indian students for any international diploma. From October onwards Careers360 made many telephone calls and sent e-mails to every available official functionary of the institution. After many promises to respond later, as we go to press, WLC, UK has not come on record on any issue, instead a few e-mails were diverted to WLC India.

According to Mr. Arora, the students of WLC, India can obtain a Post Graduate Diploma Certificate from Wigan and Leigh UK. This certificate is termed as 'equivalence' certificate. In order to obtain the 'equivalence' certificate from WLC, UK, students of WLCI are required to pay an equivalence fee of £450 (Advanced level courses) and £300 (Professional Level) directly to Wigan and Leigh College, UK. What does the equivalence stand for? Does the equivalence certificate hold any significance in UK employment market? WLC, UK again doesn't answer.

Karishma Kanuga took college to consumer court after it refused to refund fees. Court has ordered that fees be returned with 9% interest, along with compensation of Rs 50,000 for loss of a year

During classes, they (college) would show us movies and TV shows. For just that, I was travelling all the way from Koregaon Park to Prabhat Road and paying Rs 1.28 lakh!”

— Karishma Kanuga

VV Kanuga holds up the Consumer Forum order, a copy of which is with Pune Mirror
When Karishma Kanuga got admitted into a mass media course at a college affiliated to a well-known foreign university, three years ago, the 18-year-old had bright dreams of a quality education and a prospective career, thereafter.

But those dreams soon came to a grinding halt, when Karishma discovered, to her shock, that the institution she had hoped to pursue her graduate studies from was not approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Karishma, now 21 years old and a resident of Koregaon Park, had enrolled herself at the Wigan and Leigh College (WLC) India Pune centre in September of 2006, for a mass media degree.

She was compelled to abandon the course after few months, after realising there were no regular classes or lectures taking place.

While she lost an entire year of her academic career, it was only when the college denied to refund her fees that she and her parents decided to go to the Consumer Forum.

And finally, after fighting in court for close to two years, Karishma and her parents have been given the justice they were due.

Last week, the Forum’s order came through, which has directed the institute to refund the fees, which is Rs 1.28 lakh, along with an 9 per cent interest, as well as compensation of Rs 50,000 as Karishma has lost an academic year.

The institute has to make the payments within two months from the date of receiving the order.

Almost 41 working days passed by without a single regular class or lecture.

We had paid a huge sum of Rs 1,28,258 for the course and for this? Furthermore, they even held a semester exam, the results of which were never announced.”

Karishma, who is now studying Mass Media in Mumbai, said, “During classes, they (college) would show us movies and TV shows.

For just that, I was traveling all the way from Koregaon Park to Prabhat Road and paying Rs 1.28 lakh!” Even when she notified the college director of what was happening, nothing changed.

GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED, LOCALLY OBSCURE
Kanuga said, “Later, we found out that the college was not yet recognized by AICTE. That simply means they are running an illegal course.

Then, we decided to take her off the course and pursue the matter, as we had been cheated.” Karishma and her parents brought the matter to the Consumer Forum and fought the case for almost a year and a half.

The complaint against WLC was lodged with the Pune District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in January, 2008.

“We had claimed compensation of Rs 5 lakh, as my daughter lost an important year because of the college,” said Kanuga.

“I approached AICTE, while also filing an RTI application with the State Directorate of Higher Education. However, I did not get any reply from them.”

Kanuga’s RTI application sought to know “whether AICTE recognition is mandatory to run a course like mass media”.

PARENTS, STUDENTS, BEWARE!
Consumer activist and president of Grahak Hitwardhini, Sudhakar Velankar was representing the Kanuga case.

Velankar said, “According to the AICTE notification dated May 16, 2005, it’s a criminal offense if a foreign institution is running a course in India without AICTE approval.”

Legal expert Adv D G Sant, who is also secretary of Grahak Hitwardini, said, “The case of Karishma Kanuga is an eye-opener for students and parents everywhere.

WLC had already received a notice from AICTE, earlier. Now, it is up to the state government to take action against such institutions.

Unfortunately, the state is not doing anything. Institutions without proper recognition are simply fleecing students of their money. Parents and students should come forward to fight against such institutions.”

NO ORDER RECEIVED YET: WLC
When Pune Mirror contacted WLC India regarding the matter, the Pune campus director diverted us to the Delhi office.

Head of marketing WLC India, Sunil Gideon said, “We have not received the order yet. As a policy, we do not refund fees once the course starts and the student start attending classes.

In this case, Ms Kanuga attended the classes for several months before she decided to leave. Also, we are not running any illegal courses.”

Harassment at workplace. Stopping the salary when hospitalized for critical illness.

http://www.citehr.com/220613-harassment-workplace-stopping-salary-when-hospitalized-critical-illness.html

I was employed with WLC College Bangalore Campus since August 26, 2009. I was performing exceptionally well as the program manager for Life Skills sessions and i was further allocated the HR classes which was not my specialisation. I started taking those on the instruction of campus director Mr. Hidayath and was doind preity well during those classes as well.

On December 01, 2009 our Chairman Mr.Vinay came to the campus and despite Mr. Hidayath knowing that i was unwell and was in 3rd month of pregnancy, these two seniors made me stay in office till 7 PM on December 01, 2009 when no other female employee was there. Mr.Vinay started using abusive language with Mr.Hidayath and used very derogatory words which as a women i can't even withstand. He was shouting bad words at Mr.Hidayath and me over his basis for hiring me and allocating me the HR classes. Mr. Vinay then called Ms.Malobika (Noida Office) and shouted at her saying that will you hire any dog to conduct classes of HR. I never heard such a abusive language in whole of my life and the person who is the Chairman of a professional institution using the same for a women is not at all acceptable. He himself said that you resign from your services as there is no provision for taking maternity leave during pregnancy at any point of time in our organization.

I was ill during that time and got admitted to the St. Philomenus Hospital the very next day, i was under tremendous emotional distress when i came to know that i have some very critical illness and that too when i am pregnant, i called up my Centre Director Mr.Hidayath to inform him about my condition but he din’t even cared picking up the call, I sent him a sms as well which he din’t replied. I was advised bed rest and no travel. At the day of salary disbursement when I din’t received my salary I called up Mr. Hidayath, he said that I should get in touch with Noida office. I mailed to Noida office and they din’t even replied to my mails, no one even called me to check the status of my health and despite knowing that I am in Hospital they stopped my salary.

As I was advised complete bed rest with zero movement activities because of critical illness, my Husband Mr.Varun mailed all the higher management persons in Noida to check what is being done to my services and why my salary cheque is stopped, he repeatedly requested them to grant me leaves and release my salary but they din’t gave any ear to that. Instead Mr.Nitin (AGM-HR) called up to inform that he apologise for whatever happened but he said Mr.Chairman has asked him to terminate me, when my husband asked for the mail stating the same, they din’t even turned back. Mr.Nitin said you are free to take whatever steps you want and they will do a full and final settlement of my dues.

Issues:
1.Use of abusive language (Derogatory remarks against women employee).
2.Calling me a dog employed for HR classes.
3.Making me stand in office for more than 12 hours when no other female staff was there in office.
4.Denial of Maternity leaves.
5.Threat of termination if I ask for maternity leaves.
6.Stopping of my November salary when I was hospitalised.
7.No reason given for not releasing the salary.
8.Telling me that I am terminated without any mail.
9. No clearance of dues inititated.

I want these issues to be raised and addressed in a dignified manner and as an educated and qualified women I want other women to know that still there is lot of discrimination in the society and violation of Article 42 of constitution of India which states that women should be provided just and human work atmosphere and maternity relief.

Please help me getting this complaint addressed with adequate action against Mr.Hidayath (Centre Director, WLC Bangalore Campus) and Mr.Vinay Parischa(Chairman, WLC Campus), who doesn’t even have know how to treat a women with respect.

More details about all me and my husband’s email communications with WLC for leave request, salary release and complaints can be made available if required.

Please suggest me what course of action shall i take.

Regards,
Prachi

Question: Is WLC college a fraud ?

I am a student of WLC (Wigan& Leigh college),Bangalore.I am going through a trauma coz of this college. It is pure Non-sense,fraud,cheat and they are always back of money, they have no student concern and don't value students grievance.they promise to give internships in well reputed companies but they give internships in low profile companies which wont even pay us.So i request everyone who is planning to join this college to better not spoil their lives and money. If anybody a part of this college can share their experiences.

Answer
well when i was in school WLC college people came to our school and presented themselves as a very reputed college and assured placements if we joined them after school.they took an aptitude test of all the students and said the people who score well will be chosen for the course of their choice and strange was this everybody was chosen and all of us received letters from them.NO REPUTED COLLEGE OR INSTITUTION WILL EVER GO AND RUN AFTER STUDENTS TO JOIN THEIR INSTITUTE ITS THEIR FACILITIES WHICH THEMSELVES MAKE STUDENTS RUN AFTER IT.in my opinion and discussion with friends its a total fraud.
